Name Washington DC or the District of Columbia

Appearance
DC is bi-racial being half black and half white because the racial demographics of the actual Washington DC is 51% African-American and 49% white. He’s wearing the hope diamond around a ribbon that used to belong to Maryland. I also gave him a similar coat to Washington the state (with a different color) just as a little pun on the fact that they share they same name. I should also mention DC was originally designed wearing a pair of glasses (as you can see by the chibi on the right), but I had to take them away because when I drew DC in Hetalia style wearing glasses I noticed he looked a lot like Austria (and he still fucking does uhgg! ).

His human name George Ellington was based off George Washington and Duke Ellington. George Washington was the 1st president of the United States that DC was named after and George Ellington was a famous pianist and jazz composer from Washington DC.

Personality
As high class and sophisticated as he is DC can be violent, and reckless because of his high crime rate. He inherits Virginias love for wine having the most wine consumption per person. One of his hobbies are reading because he owns the world’s largest libraries in the world and collecting artifacts from around the world, some of his favorites are the hope diamond, and the Ginevra de Benci painting that Italy gave him and like his mama Maryland he Loves art, being the home to the national gallery of art.

History
After the revolutionary war all the states originally chose Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia to be the capital for America but the founding fathers wanted the capital to be a district and not a city, they chose DC to be the capital in 1790 Maryland and Virginia gave parts of their house and possessions for dc (but Virginia took back her stuff back later on).
In the war of 1812 Canada and Britain were at war with America and the states burned down Ontario’s city York (which is now the city of Toronto), Britain was furious and he wanted to avenge Ontario and Canada by sending out solders to burn down DC, but luckily on their way there, mama Maryland came to the rescue to protect DC from the solders in the town of Bladensburg (this was known as the Battle of Bladensburg) and ……. She failed, and as a result DC and many buildings such as the state capital building were on fire. This was one of the most devastating moments in his life.
In the Civil war After Virginia seceded from the union DC grew very anxious, because Maryland who lived under the Mason-Dixon Line was most likely goanna secede too leaving him surrounded by the confederates. Luckily however Abe Lincoln put Maryland under something called Martial law which basically means he forced her to stay in the union under no circumstances. After the civil war he witnessed Abraham Lincoln get shot right before his eyes in the fords theater.
DC supported the Civil rights movements because of his proud African heritage and history. He showed his support by marching down the streets under the theme jobs and freedoms (this was known as the march for jobs and freedoms). He really looked up to Martin Luther King Junior who gave one of his famous speeches in his house at the Lincoln memorial called “I have a dream”. In 1968 After Tennessee informed all if the states about king’s assassination, DC really lost it and started a big riot that led to all the other black cities (Baltimore, Chicago, Kansas city ect) to riot along with him.

Relationships

Maryland- They are not biologically related to each other but DC loves her as a mother like figue calling her “mama Maryland”. The reason is because after DC became a district Maryland gave up some of her possessions to him one of which is that ribbon that he ties around her neck and during the civil war Maryland did everything she could to protect him from British solders.

Virginia- Like Maryland they are not biologically related to each other but he still considers her family because like Maryland Virginia gave some of her possessions to DC after he became a district (but then took them back some time later). Because she didn’t play as big of a role in his childhood like Maryland he sees her more of an aunt than a mother.

This is one of his favorite museums filled with some of the most favorite artifacts.

He LOVES reading, he owns the worlds largest library called the Library of congress

the Hope Diamond
That’s thing he wears around his neck. This diamond originally belonged to France. DC got a hold of it in 1910
